The Black Hole of Kaysville

I think that we all know Mom and Dad's house has been prone to suck in your belongings with no sympathy, the house will never give your shirt, shoe, or the favorite, non-leaking baby bottle back. I was starting to think that it couldn't get any worse, that there was no way more items could get lost in this house then the average 2 or 3 per month. Little did I know that when the construction workers came and the cabinets left I would be horribly and utterly proved wrong.

Items lost since the start of construction: Sandels, bags, keys, boots, purses, camera's, calendars, food... this list could go on for a while. I think that it is only human that I remember the things I have lost more than others. Also, I might not be aware of other disappearances. The first thing I lost was a pair of sandels. To me they were the cutest, most comfortable, least supportive shoes ever to be owned by, me. This wasn't to bad as winter was approaching and I probably would've only worn them a couple of times anyways. When it really got crazy was when more gifts and presents came in. We better get it straight that if anyone tries to hide an item you've lost it before you can even think of a place to put it. So, tip #1: Don't try to hide anything, if it must be hid from a certain pair of eyes you only need to bring it in from the car and wallah! It is had been hidden. With the craziness of the holidays no one can expect everything to work. There will always be an exchange of gifts as the giver has given the present to the wrong person, or they decided someone else needed it more. Always expect something to go wrong. That is why I shouldn't have been surprised that with the moving of large furniture, cleaning out of bedrooms, and tearing down walls my boots went missing. It was a happy day when after obeying my mother {tip #2 obey parents, heavenly father really like it. } I looked upon the shoe box that held my boots. It was right there in the open sitting on the shelf. They hadn't been hidden only nicely placed in the closest with no doors where anyone could find them. This brings us to tip #3: Almost always the item that is missing is in the place you have looked a million times, the place that you first thought it would be, the place that is the easiest to find.

When we went to the cabin after Christmas I decided not to take my camera and mom placed it somewhere being safe so none of the workers would take it. When we got back a few days after I noticed that my camera was no where to be found. At first I didn't think it was that big of a deal. I looked in the places where I thought it could be and of course it was no where to be seen. Because of my job, sitting in a chair for 15 minutes then rotating to sit in another chair, I have a lot of time to think. I started to think about where my camera could be and I realized that I had to find it. It wasn't a pair of $20 shoes or an assignment from class. This was the camera I had been saving up and wanting for the past 4 or so years. This is what would allow me to do what I enjoy most, this would most likely be my future. I really started to freak out. I searched everywhere and no matter how hard I look, prayed, and re-looked I could not find it. Today after church I decided that I was going to find my camera. I searched everywhere. I started to get very frustrated, slamming cupboards, doors and being rude to whoever crossed my path-mom and dad- I started to think that it was probably taken, maybe mom didn't put it anywhere maybe someone else had it. After a few tears over hopes and dreams lost and small nap I had to get up to go to a meeting. When I came home I decided that I would take a nap and sleep on it. Then I wouldn't be so mad and I could apologize to my parents. I think that nap was about the best nap a person could ever have. Why? Because I woke up to a lovely, sleek, black camera being put in my hands. Dad had found my camera.

Of course it was where I had checked a million times, of course it was where I first thought it would be, and of course it was in the place that was easiest to find. It was in the lockers placed in a hat. Now I have had my hopes and dreams restored. I am happy and grateful for so many things. I never thought that I would care so much for something that is so material. It is material, but what it captures it defiantly not.

It may seem silly but this experience really helped me. while I was looking for it i kept on thinking, I already learned my lesson. I lost my boots, I obeyed mom. I may not be able to tell you what I learned, but I learned so why do I have to loose this too! Well searching for my camera helped my to realize somethings that I think are very important, and I also appreciate certain aspects of my life more.

1: I am grateful for a father who is righteous. I am grateful that my Dad loves me enough to put up with my sill wants that he will pray for me and will search for my happiness. I am grateful and it fills me with joy to know that I have a father who holds the priesthood, who prays for the holy ghost to be with him so that he is able to listen and respond to it. I know that if Dad didn't have those abilities my camera would still be lost.
2: I am grateful for a mother who looses things. Because of that I can learn to be patient and to ask for and welcome help when I need it. I am grateful that instead of saying sorry I lost that, I hope you find it. She looks and prays with me and feels sorrow with me. I am grateful that I am still home living with her so I can get to know her better, and I can love her more. You all should be jealous.
3: I am grateful for my camera. I love taking pictures and I can't wait to take classes and have others teach me how to take good looking pictures. As of right now that is something that is important to me and I'm grateful that I am in a position to expand on that.
4: I am grateful for the Black Hole of Kaysville. Sometimes I want to blow it up, but at least it gave me something to blog about.
5: I can't make a list of things that I'm grateful for with out telling my siblings how grateful I am for them. Thanks for being the amazing examples you are. I know that our family is crazy and full of drama, but I can't imagine a better family. I know that sometimes it is hard to keep up with everyone and sometimes it is hard to be with everyone, but I guess that is what a big family is about. No matter the hardships and hard times we have we will always stick together. We will always be there for each other. You all are so amazing and my love for each and everyone of you will always keep growing.

I know that this was really long and if you made it through I am extremely proud. Consider yourselves warned. If you happen to waddle over to the Black Hole expect those cute shoes, your shirt, and of course the non-leaking bottle to get swallowed. Of course they will get regurgitated, but it may be a while. I mean after all, it is a pretty big house.

Kristin, you are so sweet. You even made me cry. Can you try to find our red pot that may have gotten sucked up by the black hole? You would restore Jon to complete happiness! I miss seeing you! I am so excited you are coming to see us.
